Bajaur, Police constable shot dead while escorting Polio workers

BAJAUR: A police Constable Rab Demal Shah, who was on duty with a polio team, was targeted by unknown terrorists as he was returning to his duty post on Wednesday in Bajaur. Immediately after the attack, on the directives of District Police Officer Bajaur, a large police force arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and initiated a search and strike operation to apprehend the suspects.

Later funeral prayers of Police Constable Rab Demal Shah, were held with full official honors at Police Lines Bajaur. The ceremony was attended by Commandant Bajaur Scouts Brigadier Saad Mahmood, District Police Officer Bajaur Waqas Rafique, Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali Khan, SP Investigation Bajaur Naveed Iqbal, along with numerous police and civil officers, as well as members of civil society.

A smartly turned-out police contingent paid tribute to the martyr, and collective prayers were offered for his elevated status in the afterlife. Following the funeral, the martyr’s body was transported to his native area under the escort of a special police squad, where he will be laid to rest with full official honors.

This is not the first instance of the police force being targeted while escorting polio teams in Bajaur. In a deadly attack last January, 5 police personnel were killed and 20 others were injured. The attack was then claimed by TTP militants.
