Bajaur Salarzai tribes bar outsiders’ settlement over security fears

A local jirga was convened in the Amadak Malaswan Baba area of Salarzai Tehsil, Bajaur, to discuss peace and security in the region

BAJAUR: A local jirga was convened in the Amadak Malaswan Baba area of Salarzai Tehsil, Bajaur, to discuss peace and security in the region. The gathering included local elders and representatives from the Wardak community, with youth leader Sikandar Zeb Khan also in attendance.

The jirga issued a declaration stating that no strangers  individuals or groups would be permitted to reside or settle on Amadak land. It emphasized that the situation in Salarzai remains stable, rendering military operations unnecessary. The participants warned that any undeclared or forced operations would face strong public resistance.

The declaration further asserted that Salarzo is free from terrorists and their supporters. It held the government responsible for any deterioration in law and order due to external interference. The jirga warned that if unrest arises from institutional negligence or unauthorized arrivals, all stakeholders, including the Amadak community, would formulate a unified national response.

Additionally, the jirga demanded assurances on crop protection policies, urging the government to compensate farmers in case of harvest losses, as agriculture is the primary livelihood for locals.

The participants announced plans to hold a Jirga peace jirga in Salarzai soon, ensuring representation from all concerned tribes.
