Bajaur’s Jaar cricket ground converted to farmland, sparks outcry

Bajaur’s Jaar Cricket Ground Erased for Agriculture, Locals Demand Replacement

BAJAUR: The only cricket ground in Bajaur’s Jaar area, which produced talented players at district, provincial, and national levels, has been converted into agricultural land, sparking outrage among local youth.

According to details, the ground was built on tribal collective property and served as a key sports facility for years. However, it has now been leveled for farming, leaving young cricketers without a playing space.

Local players, speaking to Pakhtun Digital, urged district authorities, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, and elected representatives—including MNA Mubarak Zeb, MPA Anwer Zeb, and Ajmal Khan—to provide an alternative cricket ground.

They reminded the PTI-led provincial government of its election promise to construct tehsil-level cricket grounds. The youth warned that the lack of sports facilities could push young people toward drug addiction and unhealthy activities.
