BANNU: The participants of the Bannu Qaumi Jirga have urged the government to implement the 16-point peace charter of demand, approved by the apex committee.

A Jirga was organised by Jamaat-e-Islami here at the Jamat-e-Islami office in Bannu on Sunday. The Jirga was attended by political leaders, including provincial minister, Malak Pukhtun Yar, Former senator Baz Muhammad Khan and other leaders from the area.

The Jirga was presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa South Ameer Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan.

Former Senator Baz Muhammad Khan said on the occasion that they talked about the 1973 Constitution, but no one was ready to implement it. Unfortunately, none of the creators of the 1973 Constitution are alive today. “Similarly, I myself am ready to make any sacrifice for the peace and development of the nation,” He said. Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan said that in December 2024, a jirga was held in the office of Jamaat-e-Islami to establish peace. Some demands were made to the government in the jirga, but not a single demand has been fulfilled so far. As a result of the jirga, the government backed down from the military operation, but peace could not be established.

He said that promises were made to meet the Chief Minister, but that promise has not been kept yet. The government must show seriousness to restore trust. Peace in Bannu is a common problem for all of them, and they would work together to solve it.

At the end of the jirga, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan presented a joint resolution, which was unanimously approved. The resolution said that peace should be established in Bannu at all costs. The 16 points approved in the Apex Committee should be implemented. Schedule IV should be abolished from the leaders of the Bannu jirg, and the arrested leaders should be released. 16 suspended police personnel should be reinstated. Any kind of military operation in Bannu was completely unacceptable. All issues should be resolved through negotiations.
