PESHAWAR: Advisor to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Saif, underlined the need for immediate dialogue with the Afghan government as per the recommendations of local jirgas held in Peshawar.

He said that a joint jirga comprising of provincial, federal and tribal elders is necessary for talks with Afghanistan, as it was not possible to establish peace in the entire province, including the merged districts, without taking Afghanistan into confidence.

He mentioned that Afghanistan was an important stakeholder in establishing peace, as the merged districts have a border connection with Afghanistan of more than 2200 kilometres. He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, is taking serious steps to establish peace.

Dr. Saif added local Jirgas are being held under the leadership of the Chief Minister for this purpose and the series local Jirgas will be completed by next week after which a Grand Jirga will be held and comprehensive recommendation for lasting peace will be formulated in the Grand Jirga.
