ISLAMABAD: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was elected chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) during the party’s intra-party elections held on Saturday at its central secretariat in Islamabad.
According to an official statement, Humayun Khan was elected as the party’s secretary general, while Nadeem Afzal Chan assumed the role of information secretary. Amna Paracha was elected as finance secretary.
All officials have been elected for a four-year term under the provisions of the PPP constitution.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) also held intra-party elections in Islamabad, where Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was re-elected unopposed as party president.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain was elected as senior vice president, with Chaudhry Shafay Hussain named general secretary for Punjab and Tariq Hasan as central secretary general. All PML office-bearers were elected unopposed.
The PML’s Central General Council convened under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and included members from all four provinces, the federal capital, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Through a unanimous resolution, Dr Mohammad Amjad was appointed chief organiser, while Ghulam Mustafa Malik was named central secretary information.
