NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has extended its Hindutva ideology to cricket. Authorities have removed the name of former Indian Muslim captain Mohammad Azharuddin from an enclosure at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Azharuddin is deeply upset. He called the move shameful. Indian media reports say he feels heartbroken and distressed. The former captain criticized the decision and urged the BCCI to reconsider.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) ordered the removal of Azharuddin’s name from the North Pavilion stand. Justice V Aishwarya, HCA’s Ethics Officer and Lokpal, issued the order on Saturday (April 19). The decision followed a petition that accused Azharuddin of bias and misconduct.
According to Cricbuzz, the complaint came from Lord’s Cricket Club in Hyderabad. It claimed Azharuddin misused his role as HCA president for personal gain.
Azharuddin responded strongly. He said he regrets playing cricket and warned of legal action against HCA.
He reminded everyone of his sacrifices for India. He said he trusts the people of India and his fans to give a fitting response to HCA.
He also stated that only the courts and his supporters can expose the conspiracy against him.
