Bus-Motorcycle collision in Afghanistan claims 71 lives

HERAT, AFGHANISTAN: A devastating traffic accident in western Afghanistan’s Herat province has killed at least 71 people and left many more with serious injuries, local authorities reported.

The tragedy occurred when a passenger bus, traveling at high speed, collided with a motorcycle on the road. The impact caused the bus to catch fire. Eyewitnesses described how the flames spread so rapidly that passengers had no chance to escape.

The victims include 17 children. Afghan officials have stated that many of the injured are in critical condition.

Emergency rescue teams rushed to the scene and transported the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital, where an emergency has been declared. An investigation into the exact causes of the accident is currently underway.

The Afghan government has expressed deep grief over the incident, offered condolences to the families of the victims, and directed officials to provide all possible medical care to the survivors.
