ISLAMABAD: Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA) has relocated the Men’s Nations League Championship from Pakistan to Uzbekistan, citing security concerns. The decision follows India’s withdrawal of its No Objection Certificate (NOC) for participation after the April 22 Pahalgam incident.
Originally set to be held in Islamabad, the tournament was anticipated as a landmark moment for Pakistani volleyball. However, during CAVA’s Annual General Meeting in Nepal on April 25, several member nations reportedly raised reservations about travelling to Pakistan under current circumstances. India’s formal pullout over safety concerns prompted CAVA officials to activate a backup plan.
“The tournament will now take place in Uzbekistan, but the schedule will remain unchanged,” a CAVA official told foreign media. The event is confirmed for May 29 to June 4, 2025, with Tashkent likely serving as the host city.
Following the venue shift, India confirmed its participation. Despite losing the chance to host, Pakistan will still field its team in the tournament, alongside India, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
