China and Pakistan have taken a significant step in space collaboration, with plans for Pakistani astronauts to train and eventually work aboard China’s space station. The agreement, signed last Friday, marks the first time a foreign astronaut will participate in China’s space program, signaling a new era of aerospace cooperation between the two nations.
During a regular briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that space exploration is a shared aspiration for all humanity. “We are glad to see that China and Pakistan have signed a space cooperation agreement and look forward to the successful entry of Pakistani astronauts into the Chinese space station,” Lin said in response to a question.
Lin highlighted that China’s manned spaceflight program has consistently adhered to principles of peaceful use, equality, mutual benefit, and common development. He noted that China is committed to sharing its space exploration achievements with the global community and has actively opened its space station to international collaboration.

“We are willing to work with the Pakistani side to promote bilateral space cooperation to a new level and make space technology better benefit the economic and social development of both countries,” Lin added. He also expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with all nations and regions dedicated to the peaceful use of outer space, aiming to expand international cooperation and exchanges in the field.
Under the newly signed agreement, the selection process for Pakistani astronauts is expected to take approximately a year. The chosen candidates will then undergo comprehensive and systematic training in China, preparing them for their mission aboard the Chinese space station. This initiative underscores the deepening ties between China and Pakistan in the realm of space exploration.
