ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday and discussed mutual interest, regional security and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meeting, they discussed regional security, cooperation against terrorism, and various issues of mutual interest. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen their all-weather strategic partnership.
They also emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation in regional and international forums. The Chinese Foreign Minister expressed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development. In response, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir thanked China for its ongoing support.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Pakistan this month on an important diplomatic mission, which will be of extraordinary importance not only in the context of Pakistan-China relations but also in the context of the overall situation in the region. According to sources, Wang Yi will stay in Islamabad on August 20 and 21 and participate in the annual Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue.
This visit is taking place at a time when Pak-India tension, the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s growing closeness to the United States, have become the centre of global attention.
Recently, Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga also visited Pakistan. While Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to Pakistan was postponed for unknown reasons.
Sources say that detailed consultations will be held between the two countries on bilateral relations, progress of the CPEC project, defence cooperation, economic matters and regional security in this dialogue. The Pakistani delegation will be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
This will be Wang Yi’s first visit to Pakistan since the recent Indo-Pak war, and Pakistan’s growing ties with the United States could be a key focus of the meeting.
