CM Gandapur offers to lead talks with Taliban

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unveils multi-pronged plan to combat terrorism

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Minister CM of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP, Ali Amin Gandapur claimed on Friday that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, JUI_F chief, has lost his influence over the Taliban.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Gandapur expressed confidence in his ability to initiate dialogue with the militant group.

“Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s influence over the Taliban has ended. Give me the task—I will bring them to the table,” Gandapur said.

He revealed that a plan for talks with the Taliban was submitted two and a half months ago but has seen no progress.

“I’ve sent a negotiation plan involving tribal elders to the foreign and interior ministries, but there’s been no response. The Taliban cannot refuse the tribal elders,” he emphasised.

Gandapur asserted that if entrusted with the responsibility, he could engage directly with Taliban leader Akhundzada. “If I’m given the task, you’ll see me sitting with Akhundzada tomorrow. There’s been no contact with the Taliban yet, but send me, and talks will begin,” he said.

Reflecting on his past, Gandapur noted that two years ago, low-level Taliban leaders were in contact with Fazlur Rehman while he was in the mountains. “But today I am the chief minister—and tomorrow, I might not have any value,” he added.
