PESHAWAR: The local government representatives announced their full support to the provincial government in its struggle to achieve the constitutional rights of the province.
A delegation of the Local Government Association met with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Tuesday, the delegation was led by the President of the Local Government Association and tehsil Mayor of Mardan Himayatullah Mayar.
The meeting discussed matters related to the financial issues of the province related to the federation.
These issues include the share of districts merged in the National Financial Commission, (NFC) and arrears in the form of net hydel profit.
The chief minister assured the delegation that a cabinet meeting is scheduled on February 25 and a resolution would be passed in this regard to empower the local bodies.
The meeting decided that the resolution would demand the federal government to pay the province’s constitutional shares soon. The decision was that if the federal government did not get this share, the elected local government representatives of the province would protest vigorously under the leadership of the Chief Minister.
The meeting agreed that if necessary, the Supreme Court would be approached and the province’s case would be fought in a judicial forum.
On the occasion, Himaytullah Mayar assured the government that the local government council association fully supported the Chief Minister in his struggle to achieve the legitimate and constitutional rights of the province.
The delegation will go beyond political affiliations and fully support the provincial government for this purpose. The delegation has been merging the former tribal areas with the province for six years, but these areas are not getting their share in the NFC. Ali Amin Gandapur said that the provincial government is to get Rs 250 billion annually in this regard. The Chief Minister will discuss the net profit of hydropower. The province owes the federation Rs 2200 billion, Ali Amin The problems faced by local governments were also discussed in the meeting.
The Chief Minister assured to resolve the problems faced by local government representatives on a priority basis.
