CM KP orders mandatory plantation of fruit trees at all government buildings

 

At the third meeting of the Environment Protection Council, chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur asked the authorities of the province to ensure plantation of fruit trees at all the government buildings.

The Meeting was attended by the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Climate Change, Administrative Secretaries of the concerned departments and other members of the Council.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the decisions taken in the previous meeting of the Council.

The Chief Minister, on the occasion, directed to make fruit trees be made mandatory in the premises of all government buildings, including all government houses, offices, hospitals and educational institutions.

“During the upcoming plantation drive, fruit trees should be planted in the premises of government buildings and along the roads, “the Chief Minister KP said.

He said the process of planting fruit trees is becoming extinct and needs to be encouraged because fruit trees were essential for the survival of humans as well as birds.

Mr Gandapur said the Agriculture Department should be given special responsibility for planting fruit trees, and steps should be taken to promote the trend of planting fruit trees among the youth.

The meeting reviewed the status of implementation of the decisions taken in the previous meeting of the Council for Environmental Protection.

The Chief Minister directed to provide complete data be provided within 15 days for converting the existing brick kilns in the province to zigzag technology.

The Chief Minister sought a report on the delays and obstacles in the implementation of some decisions taken in the previous meeting of the Environment Protection Council.

The meeting also reviewed the progress on the decision to regularise old housing societies established in the province without NOC and approval.

The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the progress related to the regularisation of housing societies.

The meeting approved guidelines for the regulation of BTS towers and mini-micro hydropower projects.

The meeting also approved in principle guidelines for the regulation of 32 different sectors that cause environmental pollution.

All relevant departments and institutions should work together to take steps in this regard under a comprehensive and coordinated strategy.
