Dera Ismail Khan : The District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) in Dera Ismail Khan (D.I Khan) is embroiled in a major corruption scandal, with authorities investigating alleged embezzlement of Rs. 200 million meant for medicines and medical supplies. The scandal has put KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur under pressure, as he represents the region and hails from the same district.
Local residents told Pakhtun Digital that the hospital lacks even basic supplies, including medicines, injections, and IV drips, forcing patients to purchase essentials from private pharmacies. Despite government claims of free healthcare, many say they receive no support in emergencies.
The provincial anti-corruption body has launched an inquiry into the misuse of funds over the past few months. Initial findings suggest irregularities in medicine procurement, with suspicions that supplies were diverted to the black market instead of reaching patients.
Similar corruption cases have surfaced in other KP hospitals, raising concerns about systemic mismanagement. In response, the KP Health Department is introducing a digital procurement system to ensure transparency in medical purchases.
