Country lacks rule of law and constitutional supremacy: Sheikh Waqas

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram has claimed in a press conference that the mandate of the PTI in the February 8 general elections was stolen under an organized conspiracy, and the country has been pushed towards a constitutional crisis.

He said that today’s Pakistan has become a symbol of lies, injustice and rigging, where a fake government has been forcibly imposed by ignoring the public opinion.

According to Sheikh Waqas Akram, the PTI had won 180 seats in the National Assembly, but state institutions and political opponents conspired to establish a government arrangement based on just 110 seats.

He said that this is not just an abuse of the PTI, but an open injustice against millions of voters of Pakistan. He alleged that the PDM and the establishment together changed the election results, after which bids were made by public representatives in Sindh House, and the public mandate was distributed as spoils of war.

During the press conference, Sheikh Waqas Akram also strongly criticized the Supreme Court and Justice Qazi Faez Isa. He said that the court had tarnished Pakistan’s judicial history by taking away the election symbol of “Balla” from the PTI. According to him, this move was a manifestation of personal grudge, prejudice and political revenge.

He further said that there was no legal justification for the reserved seats, but through court decisions, PTI candidates were forcibly declared independent and the seats were given to other parties.

Sheikh Waqas raised the question that the PPP won only one seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, then on what basis were they given two reserved seats? Similarly, despite having 7 seats, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam got more than 10 reserved seats, which is against democratic and electoral principles.

In the press conference, he also strongly protested against the treatment meted out to the founder of the PTI. He said that the founder of PTI has been kept in solitary confinement, his family and lawyers are not being allowed to meet him, despite clear court orders. “The federal government is afraid of the founder of PTI, that is why his basic human rights are being denied despite constitutional and legal orders.
