ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has strongly reacted to the recent court decisions, saying that in just three days, party leaders were sentenced to 45 years in prison in three separate cases, which is an alarming situation for the democratic process in the country.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said, “These decisions that are coming will derail democracy. To put pressure on the founding chairman, Imran Khan, his wife was sentenced, but despite all these circumstances, we decided to walk with the state.”

Referring to the recent decision of the Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court, he said, “Today, the opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate were sentenced, parliamentary leader Zartaj Gul was also sentenced to ten years in prison. This is tantamount to punishing not only individuals but also Parliament and democracy.”

Barrister Gohar appealed to the Chief Justice and said, “Trials in our courts are going on till 2:00 am, this is not an atmosphere of justice, but of pressure. Where there is more than one FIR, other cases are usually stopped but continuous action is being taken against PTI.”

“The judiciary has always been considered a ray of hope, but in the current situation, the public’s disappointment is increasing. There is still time to save the judicial system and democratic values,” he added.

PTI leaders are calling the recent court decisions political revenge and an attack on the democratic system, while the party has started consultations on its future legal and political strategy.
