Court issues arrest warrants for MPA, five others in Radio Pakistan Attack Case

PESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Peshawar on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for a sitting Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) and five others in connection with the Radio Pakistan Attack Case on May 9, 2023.

ATC judge Wali Muhammad heard the case. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarian (PTI-P) MPA Arbab Waseem   Khan and several other suspects failed to appear before the court.

The prosecution stated that the accused, including the MPA, were involved in setting fire to the Radio Pakistan building during a protest on May 9. A case against them had been registered at the Sharqi Police Station.

The investigation into the case has been completed, and the trial has commenced. However, the accused have not been appearing in court, the prosecution added.

The judge ordered the arrest and production of the accused at the next hearing.

Following these developments, the court adjourned the hearing until April 12.

It is pertinent to mention here that Arbab Waseem was a member of Imran Khan’s led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf when he was charged in the case. Later, he parted ways with PTI and joined Pervez Khattak’s new party PTI-P before the 2024 general elections. He is among the two MPAs who won the election on the PTI-P platform.
