SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A day-long curfew has been imposed in South Waziristan due to heightened security concerns, according to local district authorities, restricting all public movement and halting commercial activities throughout the region.
In a statement issued by Deputy Commissioner South Waziristan Nasir Khan, said that the curfew in Wana city and surrounding areas has been enforced as a preventive measure aimed at maintaining law and order in light of possible threats. The step is described as part of a broader effort to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents. The curfew will last from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The notification issued by the district administration also outlines strict safety protocols. Residents have been instructed to stop their vehicles at least 50 meters away upon sighting security forces convoys. Authorities say this precaution is necessary to avoid any miscommunication or accidental confrontation during security operations.
Deputy Commissioner Fazal Wadood of Upper South Waziristan confirmed that similar restrictions are in place across all tehsils of the district. He said that the curfew covers all forms of transportation and trade, effectively suspending daily life for the duration of the curfew.
The district administration has appealed to the public for cooperation, stressing that such measures are being taken in the public interest. Officials reiterated that these precautions are temporary and are meant to counter potential threats and safeguard lives and property.
The curfew comes amid rising concerns over the security situation in the region. While no specific incident was cited as the immediate trigger, officials confirmed that the move is part of a proactive security strategy to maintain peace and stability.
Authorities assured residents that their safety remains the top priority and all possible steps would be taken to restore peace in the area.
