BAJAUR: A bitter 30-year tribal conflict over land ownership in Bajaur district, which claimed 73 lives and displaced families, has finally been resolved through a peaceful settlement.
The dispute began in 1994 in Gabre area of Mamond tehsil between the Kharai Khel (Umar Khel), Almazi tribe, and later the Liwgi Khel tribe in 2003. The clashes led to deaths, injuries, and forced evictions, with multiple failed attempts to mediate the issue.
To end the violence, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali formed a new jirga led by Malik Khalid Khan, along with Dr. Obaidullah, Malik Muhammad Saeed Khan, and Malik Gul Muhammad Khan**. After thorough discussions with elders and reviewing historical records, the jirga successfully negotiated a peace deal.
The agreement was celebrated at a ceremony attended by MPA Dr. Hameed-ur-Rehman, former Senator Maulana Abdul Rashid, Malik Marjan (Waziristan), and other tribal leaders.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali, Malik Khalid Khan, and Brigadier Saad Mahmood praised the efforts of the jirga and the tribes for choosing peace. Both sides hugged, vowing to live in harmony, marking a new chapter of unity in Bajaur.
This resolution not only ends the land dispute but also fosters lasting brotherhood among the tribes.
