Illegal structures removed in Kalam as anti-encroachment drive continues

SWAT: The district administration in Swat has directed to intensify its ongoing grand operation against encroachments across the valley and remove 49 illegal constructions in various areas of river side. , and the operation is resuming with renewed momentum from today.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, the administration will not succumb to any kind of political or social pressure, and the operation will be carried out without discrimination. He confirmed that the boundary walls of a hotel belonging to engineer Ameer Maqam have also been identified, and that is why it was demolished, while the hotel’s courtyard and ramp were also found to be in violation and will be removed in due course.

DC Saleem Jan emphasised that the anti-encroachment drive is not limited to the popular tourist area of Fizzaghat. It will be expanded to other key destinations, including Khwazakhela, Bahrain, and Kalam, where several illegal structures have been erected on public land or along riverbanks.

Meanwhile, rescue efforts continue for the sixth consecutive day following the tragic incident in Swat River, where tourists were swept away by flood. According to Rescue 1122, twelve bodies have been recovered from various locations. However, the search is still underway for a missing child named Abdullah, whose body has not yet been found.

The child belongs to a family from Daska, Sialkot, and the tragedy has sparked widespread grief. Rescue teams have now expanded their search operations to Brikot, Charsadda, Malakand, and surrounding areas to widen the search perimeter and enhance the chances of recovery. Rescue officials have also deployed teams to other adjoining districts to assist in the ongoing operation.

Authorities remain committed to completing both the anti-encroachment and rescue operations with urgency, citing public safety and lawful land use as top priorities.
