ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s focal person, Azhar Mashwani, has claimed that Deputy Opposition Leader of the Punjab Assembly Moin Qureshi has been arrested by the police.
The PTI had announced protests across the country on August 05, after which security was tightened in various cities, and the police have started the operation. According to sources, the police arrested Moin Qureshi from a suburb of Lahore, along with six other members of the assembly.
The PTI leadership says that the protest aims to raise voice for the release of the founder of the party, the independence of the judiciary and the end of political vendetta; however, the government is taking strict measures to stop the protests.
Reports of arrests of PTI workers and local leaders are also being received from different areas of Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. Section 144 is in force in several cities, and public gatherings are banned.
Party leaders have called the arrests an attack on democracy and appealed to workers to remain peaceful.
