Deputy PM, EU’s High Representative discuss situation in South Asia

India cannot unilaterally abrogate Indus Waters Treaty, says Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President, Kaja Kallas, to discuss the situation in South Asia.

During the call, the DPM briefed Kallas on recent regional developments, firmly rejecting India’s unfounded allegations and provocative rhetoric. He voiced serious concern over India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a blatant violation of international law and treaty commitments.

Reiterating Pakistan’s dedication to peace and regional stability, the DPM proposed an independent and transparent investigation into the matter. In response, Kallas stressed the need for both sides to exercise restraint and highlighted the importance of dialogue in maintaining peace in the region.

The two leaders also reviewed Pakistan-EU relations during the exchange.
