PESHAWAR: Recent floods caused by heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have worsened the health situation in affected districts, with a sharp increase in waterborne and vector-borne diseases, along with rising cases of snake sightings and mosquito infestations.
According to a report by the Directorate General of Health Services (KP), 2,506 cholera cases have been recorded so far, of which 1,112 patients have received treatment. The report also highlights a notable surge in malaria, dengue, and skin-related illnesses.
An unusual rise in respiratory infections, including flu and cold symptoms, has also been observed, particularly in flood-hit areas such as Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram.
Health experts warn that without timely preventive steps, these outbreaks could worsen in the coming weeks. In response, medical camps have been set up in affected regions, while health and rescue teams are working to provide treatment and relief.
Authorities stress that urgent health interventions, improved sanitation measures, and mosquito control campaigns are critical to curbing the spread of these epidemics.
