DPM Dar, Afghanistan FM agree to continue cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Afghan counterpart Amir Muttaqi have agreed to maintain close cooperation to strengthen mutual trust. The understanding was reached during a telephone conversation between the two foreign ministers on Sunday.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Foreign Minister Dar had announced two days earlier that Pakistan would upgrade its embassy in Afghanistan to ambassadorial level. In a reciprocal move, Afghanistan elevated its Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to the rank of ambassador on Saturday.

The Afghan Foreign Minister welcomed Pakistan’s decision to enhance diplomatic relations, calling it a significant and positive step toward building trust and strengthening bilateral ties.

The two leaders also reviewed the progress on decisions made during their April 19 meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration, the spokesperson added.
