DPM Dar to represent Pakistan at SCO FM’s meeting in China

India cannot unilaterally abrogate Indus Waters Treaty, says Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the three-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, scheduled to begin today in Tianjin, China.

Dar is attending the event on the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The meeting will bring together foreign ministers from all SCO member states, including Pakistan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and newly inducted member Belarus—whose foreign minister will be attending the forum for the first time in this capacity.

The Council of Foreign Ministers is the third-highest decision-making body within the SCO structure. It deliberates on key issues related to international affairs and the foreign and security policies of member countries. The forum also approves declarations and statements to be submitted to the Council of Heads of State, along with key decisions to be adopted by the SCO.

The next SCO Council of Heads of State summit is set to be held in Tianjin on July 31 and September 1 this year.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Ishaq Dar is expected to hold bilateral discussions with several of his counterparts.
