Hundreds of people have been affected by the recent floods in the Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Roads are in shabby condition across the district, and large rocks are visible here and there, but despite all this, relief activities are being provided everywhere.

In this atmosphere of hopelessness, along with other volunteers, Dr. Sawira Prakash, who belongs to the minority community of Buner, is also seen standing with the people side by side. Dr. Sawira Prakash is a doctor, politician and social worker from Buner district. She is a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party and is always active in serving humanity along with her political activities.

She has also participated in relief activities to help the victims during natural disasters like floods. Talking to a local journalist, Dr. Sawira Prakash said, “My goal is to work for all communities, including the minority community, above politics.”

She also reached Chagharzi Tehsil on the border of Shangla and Buner districts yesterday, where many houses in the mountainous areas have been destroyed. She also provided aid to the victims in Chagharzi and offered them relief.

Dr. Sawira Prakash said, “Access to the affected areas is extremely difficult. People are getting sick due to the stench everywhere, while they are not even being offered relief.” She said, “There is neither light nor any ray of hope in the affected areas. It is heartbreaking to see our people in this condition.”

Dr. Sawira is actively involved in relief activities in these circumstances while also trying to awaken hope in the hearts of people.

She has also contested elections on the PPP ticket, but she clarified that ‘she aims to serve humanity beyond politics. These are my own people. I am assisting the affected people. The party ticket was a path for me, but my aim is only to serve humanity.’

She said that ‘cash donations, medicines, and relief packages received from different people have been distributed to the affected people. PPP packages have also been provided from Mardan.’‘People from different parts of the country are giving us donations for relief, and we ourselves are going and delivering them to the deserving victims.’

In the remote and backwards areas of Buner, Dr. Sawira has been welcomed by the local people with open hearts. They welcomed us and expressed happiness. I have never even gone to these areas for election campaigning, but surprisingly, people recognise me.’

All Communities, including the Hindu community, have been affected by the floods in Buner. Dr. Sawira said, “The businesses of some families from the minority community have been badly damaged. They are trying to assist not only to the minority community but to all the victims. I have come out for everyone as a whole. Everyone has suffered in Buner. The businesses of some families from the Sikh community have been destroyed, and I am also making efforts for them.” She appealed to the public to “prioritise humanity and come forward to help the victims. Community help is needed the most at this time. Everyone is requested to help in every possible way. Human beings should be helped regardless of their colour, race, or religion. Regardless of political affiliations, many people are sincerely participating in relief work.”
