PESHAWAR: Earthquake tremors of 5.4 magnitude were felt in Peshawar and several other cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 215 kilometers in the Hindu Kush Mountain range in Afghanistan. The tremors were also felt in Islamabad, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Swabi, Mardan, Chitral, and other KP cities, as well as in Punjab cities like Multan, Gujranwala, Chiniot, Rawalpindi, and Sargodha.
Following the tremors, residents in affected areas rushed out of their homes in fear, reciting religious prayers. However, no reports of casualties or property damage have been confirmed. Authorities have assured the public that emergency teams are monitoring the situation closely and have urged citizens to stay alert and follow safety protocols in the event of further seismic activity.
Pakistan’s location on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates makes it prone to seismic activity. The Hindu Kush region, where the recent earthquake originated, is known for frequent seismic events that can affect Pakistan and neighboring countries.
