ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday released the schedule for by-elections in three major constituencies including NA-129 Lahore, NA-66 Wazirabad, and PP-87 Mianwali, with polling set for September 18.

As per the ECP notification, nomination papers can be submitted until August 6, and a provisional list of candidates will be published on August 7. Election symbols will be allotted on August 26, marking the beginning of the official campaign period.

The NA-129 Lahore seat was vacated following the death of senior PTI leader Mian Azhar, while the NA-66 Wazirabad and PP-87 Mianwali seats were declared vacant after the disqualification of Ahmed Khan Bhachar and Ahmed Chattha, respectively.

The ECP also announced the schedule for a Senate by-election following the disqualification of PTI Senator Ejaz Chaudhry. Nomination papers for the Senate seat will be received on August 1 and 2. Scrutiny will take place on August 5, and the last date to withdraw candidacy is August 13. Polling for the Senate seat is scheduled for August 21.

Meanwhile, the ECP also disqualified Abdul Latif Chitrali, MNA from NA-1 Chitral, under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution. The decision, announced on July 29, came after Chitrali was sentenced to 10 years by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 incidents.
