The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a major step against key leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in light of the Supreme Court’s decision and disqualified 9 members, including opposition leaders, in the Senate and the National Assembly.
The list includes the Opposition Leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, who have been disqualified along with other leaders, and their seats have been deemed vacant.
Other members who have been disqualified include Rai Haider Ali Khan, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, Zartaj Gul, Muhammad Ansar Iqbal (Member of Punjab Assembly), Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal and Junaid Akbar Sahi.
According to a statement issued by the Election Commission, all these disqualifications were implemented under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution.
