ISLAMABAD: United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric has said that the head of the organization Antonio Guterres will continue to communicate with the leadership of both countries to reduce the recent tension between India and Pakistan.
In response to a question during his routine press briefing, the spokesman said that the head of the UN contacts the parties in situations of tension anywhere in the world to resolve differences peacefully and offers the services of his office in this regard, and the same is being done in the case of India and Pakistan. When the spokesperson was asked whether there was any response from India to the request made by Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN to the Secretary-General to mediate, he said that the mediator can play a role only if both parties accept it. The terrorist attack on the tourist spot of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 killed 26 people and injured many more. Tensions between the two neighbouring countries have been high since the incident. Secretary General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the incident and called for those involved to be brought to justice.
