Election on vacant seat of Senate from KP tomorrow as PPP candidate withdraws

PESHAWAR: By-election on a vacant Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held tomorrow, this seat fell vacant after the resignation of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Sania Nishtar.

An important development has come to light before the election process of the Senate as Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Rahila Bibi has announced her withdrawal from the election in favour of the PML-N candidate.

Rahila Bibi has formally submitted a letter to the Returning Officer, which states, “I am withdrawing from the by-election on the vacant Senate seat and declare my full support for the PML-N candidate.” This political decision is being considered a sign of mutual understanding between the opposition parties, which is said to be aimed at preventing the division of votes.

According to the Election Commission of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Jirga Hall of the Assembly has been declared a polling station for the Senate by-election. The polling will be through a secret ballot, and a total of 9 candidates are in the field. The Election Commission has directed strict implementation of the code of conduct during the polling and clarified that “there will be a complete ban on carrying mobile phones inside the polling station.”

This seat fell vacant when former federal minister and PTI leader Sania Nishtar resigned from the Senate. After her resignation, the Election Commission released the schedule for the by-election.
