The Ministry of Energy has introduced a new smart app called ‘Apna Meter, Apna Reading’ in a major initiative to empower electricity consumers in the billing process and promote transparency.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially launched the app, which aims to enable electricity consumers to upload a picture of their meter on a specific date every month so that bills are issued based on the same reading.
The implementation of the new app will relieve consumers of several old problems, including overbilling, reading errors and delays. This initiative is not just a technical convenience but is being seen as a practical improvement in governance.
The consumer’s reading uploaded on the specified date will be considered final, and meter reader readings taken after that will be ignored.
The initiative will particularly benefit those consumers who are entitled to government subsidies. The app will not only give consumers control over billing but will also bring a significant reduction in complaints and promote transparency in the electricity system.
