BAJAUR: Amid escalating tensions in Bajaur, the local residents of the tehsil of Mamond, Bajaur have commenced evacuation to safer places and camps set up for internally displaced families of the area.

A new military operation is set to begin in the Mamond area of Bajaur. This development follows the failure of ongoing negotiations between the Bajaur Peace Jirga and the Taliban. Despite seven rounds of discussions, the talks have ended inconclusively. Following these meetings, the head of the Jirga and the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami addressed the media, urging both sides to minimise the harm inflicted on the local population during this conflict. Consequently, many residents of Mamond have begun to leave the area.

Displaced individuals from Mamond have sought refuge in rented homes, as well as in government schools and colleges located in Inayat Kala, Patak tehsil of Khar, Salarzo tehsil, and other suburban areas. The district administration has designated a total of 107 educational institutions for the IDPs accommodation.

Additionally, the district administration has established a camp with 500 tents for the displaced families at the Bajaur Sports Complex. Currently, over 70 affected families are residing there.

In response to the situation, the district administration convened an important meeting today, chaired by AC Khar, Dr. Sadiq. This meeting included representatives from the district administration, NGOs operating in Bajaur, welfare organisations, and the Red Crescent, as well as officials from the education department.

The district administration has declared an emergency for all departments and emphasised the importance of providing all possible support to the victims.
