As tensions escalated between Israel and Iran with fresh attacks exchanged overnight into Sunday, the Pakistani government confirmed the evacuation of 450 Pakistani pilgrims from Iran, with further evacuations planned from both Iran and Iraq.
On Friday, Israel launched a large-scale air offensive targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, military commanders, and scientists, claiming the strikes were intended to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran has consistently denied these allegations, asserting that its uranium enrichment programme is solely for peaceful, civilian purposes.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) this afternoon, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of Pakistani nationals in the region.
“The welfare and protection of our citizens remains our top priority,” Dar wrote.
