Ex US President Joe Biden diagnosed with cancer

WASHINGTON: Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office announced on Sunday.

According to the statement, the 82-year-old was diagnosed on Friday after experiencing urinary symptoms. He and his family are currently exploring treatment options with medical specialists.

“Although this is a more advanced and aggressive cancer, it is hormone-sensitive, which means it can be effectively managed,” the statement noted.

The White House has not yet issued an official response. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump—who has frequently criticized Biden since taking office—has remained silent on the news.

Biden served as president from 2021 to 2025. He abruptly ended his re-election campaign last July, shortly after a shaky debate performance against Republican candidate Donald Trump stirred anxiety among Democrats. Following his withdrawal, Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in as the Democratic nominee but ultimately lost the general election to Trump.

Biden’s age and health had been under growing scrutiny throughout his presidency. At the time of his election, he was the oldest individual ever to win the office—a record later surpassed by Trump, now 78, following his recent victory.
