KOHAT: Residents of Anbar Banda, a suburban area of Kohat, are facing severe and prolonged electricity outages, which have brought daily life to a standstill. The community is growing increasingly frustrated, and many have warned of road blockades in protest if the situation doesn’t improve.
According to local residents, electricity is cut off for long hours throughout the day, and when it is restored, it’s only for an hour or less. Even during that short period, the supply is unstable, often tripping repeatedly, which damages household appliances and disrupts routines. Citizens report that despite lodging multiple complaints, no effective measures have been taken by the authorities. Business activities have also suffered due to the unpredictable power supply, further compounding the frustrations of the community.
In addition to the load shedding, dangerously low-hanging high-voltage wires in the area pose a serious threat to public safety. Locals fear a potential tragedy if immediate action is not taken to secure and repair these lines.
The residents have issued a stern warning: if the power supply situation does not improve and safety hazards are not addressed, they will be forced to take to the streets and block main roads in protest. They stated they are no longer willing to suffer in silence. The community is calling on the provincial government and WAPDA officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and to urgently fix the hazardous power lines to prevent any unfortunate incidents and restore normalcy in their lives.
