Experts warn AI could eliminate 99% of jobs by 2030

NEW YORK: Professor Roman Yampolskiy, a leading expert in AI safety and a computer science professor at the University of Louisville, has warned that Artificial intelligence (AI) could wipe out 99% of jobs by 2030.

During an interview with The Diary of a CEO podcast, Professor Yampolskiy informed that most people remain unaware of the scale of transformation that AI is about to bring to the global labor market.

Professor Yampolskiy highlighted that even professions like coders and prompt engineers, currently at the heart of the AI revolution, will not be spared by the wave of automation.

He predicted that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), AI with human-like cognitive abilities, may become mainstream by 2027. Within three years of its arrival, he believes the entire labor market could collapse, as AI tools and humanoid robots make human labor economically unviable.

Professor Yampolskiy warned that employment is not just about income; it also provides structure, identity, and community. Without jobs, societies would need to radically reimagine how to provide these essential social elements.

Backing up this grim forecast, Mo Gawdat, former Chief Business Officer at Google X, also warned that the era of AI-induced unemployment could begin as early as 2027. According to him, even white-collar jobs, including software developers, CEOs, and podcasters, are not safe.
