PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for a political shift in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), suggesting that change must come from within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, he voiced serious concerns over the worsening security and law and order situation in various parts of the country.
Maulana Fazl stated that terrorism has become routine in Balochistan, Sindh is facing a rise in theft, and overall governance is deteriorating. He questioned the country’s ability to eliminate terrorism, urging reflection and decisive change.
He alleged that the current KP government’s majority is “fake” and warned that the province could not afford further political instability. He praised the period of JUI-F governance in KP, claiming it was marked by peace and stability, and said any move towards change would be made after internal party consultations.
Criticizing the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into KP, Fazlur Rehman described it as a flawed decision made without proper consultation. He demanded that the constitutional amendment be reversed in the national interest and urged political parties to accept that the merger was a mistake.
The JUI-F chief also stressed the need for political disagreements to remain within bounds and not turn into personal hostilities. He reiterated that his party does not recognize armed groups, but said dialogue with PTI is possible if the party alters its approach. He added that young PTI supporters often meet him and engage in discussion.
When asked about potential seat adjustments for the Senate, Fazlur Rehman declined to comment. However, he noted that any differences with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would be resolved through dialogue, and called for an All-Parties Conference (APC) to address the worsening law and order situation.
