WASHINGTON: Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff (COAS)Syed Asim Munir, while lauding the role of overseas Pakistanis in national development, said that they are not only citizens of Pakistan but also represent the country as an ambassador of Pakistan.
He is currently on an official visit to the United States, where he held an interactive session with members of the overseas Pakistani community in Washington, D.C. The visit is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora and international partners. General Munir was welcomed with great warmth and enthusiasm by a large number of Pakistani expatriates, who had gathered to express solidarity with the Pakistan Armed Forces. The atmosphere was filled with patriotic energy, as community members greeted the Army Chief with slogans, applause, and national pride.
During the interaction, the expatriates paid tribute to the Pakistan Army’s exemplary performance, particularly in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos (Marka-e-Haq)—a major military campaign that has been praised for its precision, discipline, and decisive outcomes in combating threats to national security. They commended the armed forces’ professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the homeland.
In his remarks, General Asim Munir thanked the overseas Pakistani community for their steadfast support and patriotic spirit. He acknowledged their vital contributions to Pakistan’s economy, especially through remittances, foreign investments, and their role in promoting a positive image of Pakistan abroad. “You are not just Pakistanis living abroad—you are Pakistan’s ambassadors to the world,” the COAS said, expressing deep appreciation for their efforts in building bridges between nations.
The Army Chief also highlighted the importance of diaspora engagement in national development. He encouraged overseas Pakistanis to continue playing an active role in shaping public discourse, investing in innovation and education, and strengthening socio-economic ties between Pakistan and the global community.
Participants of the session shared their perspectives on a range of issues, including the need for improved consular services, investment facilitation, and cultural diplomacy. General Munir listened attentively and assured them that the government and military leadership are committed to addressing their concerns and building a stronger, more inclusive national policy framework for overseas citizens.
He also underscored the importance of unity, stability, and shared responsibility in navigating Pakistan through internal and external challenges.
“Our collective strength lies in national unity—whether inside Pakistan or abroad,” he emphasised. “We must remain resilient, focused, and united in our vision for a prosperous and secure Pakistan.”The session concluded on a note of mutual respect and commitment, with the overseas community reaffirming their unwavering support for the country’s armed forces and national leadership. Both sides pledged to work together for the betterment of Pakistan and to uphold its interests on the global stage.
