LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a major decision to ensure an uninterrupted supply of wheat for human consumption in the province and has imposed an immediate ban on the use of wheat in feed mills.

According to the Home Department, this step has been taken under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898, which will continue to be applicable till October 3. According to an official statement, feed mills in Punjab currently have a stock of 104,184 metric tons of wheat, which was going to be used as chicken feed, however, the government has clarified that wheat is basic human food and will be used only for the preparation of flour in flour mills.

The Punjab Home Secretary’s order states that this decision has been taken in view of the fear of possible shortage of wheat and flour in the province so that uninterrupted supply of bread and other food items can be ensured.

Instructions have also been issued to publicize the ban through the official gazette, newspapers and other media.
