Four day sports gala kicks off in Swabi

SWABI: A four-day sports gala began at Women University on Wednesday, featuring a range of colourful events that emphasized the importance of education.

The gala was inaugurated by former Speaker Asad Qaiser, who officially opened the event by cutting the ribbon. Also in attendance were the Minister for Higher Education of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Meena Khan Afridi, and the Minister for Transport, Rangeez Khan.

Students from various departments of the University participated in a flag march that received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The female students actively engaged in the gala activities, showcasing great enthusiasm.

In his address, the Minister for Higher Education highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting women’s education.

He acknowledged the common perception that female education rates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are low; however, he pointed out that recent policies have significantly improved this situation.

Since 2013, the participation of women in higher education has reached 45 per cent, and the Minister expressed hope that by the end of the current government’s tenure, the number of female students would exceed that of male students.

He reported a 70 per cent increase in the recent enrollment of female students across provincial colleges.

Additionally, the government has announced free education for women at the intermediate level, which will also be available for orphan students. This initiative aims to help thousands of female students continue their education, which is crucial for societal development.

The Minister for Higher Education instructed the university administration to expedite preparations for the selection board to ensure qualified individuals are appointed to teaching and administrative positions.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to merit and transparency, stating that all recruitments will be based solely on merit to enhance educational standards.

He also announced that a Vice-Chancellor would be appointed at Women’s University Swabi soon, aiming to improve the management of the university’s administrative and academic affairs.

Former Speaker Asad Qaiser also addressed the audience, emphasizing the potential of youth as the greatest strength of Pakistan. With 65 percent of the population comprised of young people, he highlighted this demographic as a golden opportunity for the nation. “If we positively develop our youth, provide them with opportunities, and channel their talents effectively, Pakistan can experience rapid development,” Mr. Qaiser stated. He encouraged hard work and good intentions as vital components in steering the country toward progress.

Minister for Sports Fakhar Jahan emphasized the importance of sports, noting the government’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s sports. He stated that healthy activities are essential for the younger generation’s physical and mental development and promised to provide all possible facilities to help students showcase their talents.

Mian Syed Khan, Vice Chancellor of Women’s University Swabi, addressed the gathering, stating that the university is dedicated to empowering women. Their goal is to offer the best opportunities for students in extracurricular activities alongside quality education so that they can demonstrate their capabilities in various fields.

Haji Rangiz Khan, Member of the Provincial Assembly, praised Women’s University Swabi as a significant educational advancement. He noted that the growth of this institution would further enhance women’s higher education in the region, benefiting the province as a whole.

He expressed pride in the priority given to women’s education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
