ISLAMABAD: At least 11 people, including four Pakistanis, died in a tragic boat accident off the coast of Libya.
The Pakistani Embassy in Libya reported the incident to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accident happened on April 12 near the Harawa coast, close to Sirte in eastern Libya.
Rescue teams have recovered 11 bodies so far. Four of the deceased have been identified as Pakistani nationals.
A team from the Pakistani Embassy visited Sirte to confirm the identities. They used national ID documents for verification.
Among the victims, Zahid Mahmood, son of Liaqat Ali, was from Gujranwala. Sameer Ali (son of Raja Abdul Qadeer), Syed Ali Hussain (son of Shafqat-ul-Hassanain), and Asif Ali (son of Nazar Muhammad) were from Mandi Bahauddin.
Two bodies remain unidentified. The remaining five have been confirmed as Egyptian nationals.
The Pakistani Embassy is in contact with local authorities. Efforts are ongoing to collect more details about the incident.
