Flash Floods Strike Babusar Road Valley: Three Tourists Dead, Four Injured, Over Fifteen Missing

Heavy rains and sudden flash flooding along Babusar Road in Thak Valley, District Diamer, have caused significant devastation among holidaymakers and local communities. The flooding swept away eight vehicles and resulted in widespread destruction across the area.

Faizullah Faraq, spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, confirmed that rescue teams have recovered the bodies of three tourists and evacuated four others who were injured. They were taken to Gilgit District Hospital, where one remains in critical condition. Over fifteen visitors are still unaccounted for, prompting an intensification of search operations along the inundated route.

The floods damaged sections of the highway, destroyed flood-retaining walls and farm tracks, and severed fiber-optic cables, leaving thousands of travellers and residents without communication. Hundreds of trapped tourists have since been brought to safety; government teams have cleared debris and escorted them off the mountain road while local villagers provided emergency shelter and assistance.

The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has ordered the mobilisation of all available resources to reinforce vulnerable sections of the highway, restore communications, and ensure uninterrupted rescue and relief efforts.
