PESHAWAR: The mystery surrounding the brutal murder of Rais Khan, whose body was found six days ago in the Khwar Ghara area of Aftizai, Faqirabad, has finally been unraveled.
Police investigations have revealed a shocking twist as the killer was none other than the victim’s close friend, Shafiq. According to details provided by the investigating authorities, on the night of the incident, Shafiq contacted Rais Khan via phone and invited him to a meeting in the secluded area of Khwar Ghara. It was there that Shafiq opened fire on Rais Khan, killing him on the spot and fleeing the scene under the cover of darkness.
Initially treated as a case of blind murder, police launched a thorough investigation to uncover the truth. The investigation team broadened its scope, including individuals from the victim’s close social circle and family in the inquiry. During the questioning process, discrepancies in Shafiq’s statements drew the attention of investigators.
When confronted with the inconsistencies and subjected to further interrogation, Shafiq eventually confessed to committing the murder. He admitted that the act was not spontaneous but rather carefully planned, citing a personal feud and unresolved past disputes as his motive.
The murder had initially come to light on June 21, when residents discovered Rais Khan’s lifeless body in the Khwar Ghara area. His father, Musri Khan, subsequently filed a case against unknown assailants, leading to a formal police investigation under the relevant sections of the law.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the accused is currently in custody and that further interrogation is ongoing to determine if any other individuals were involved or aware of the plot.
Police have praised the investigative team’s efforts in solving what could have remained a cold case. The swift breakthrough highlights the importance of community cooperation and detailed forensic and psychological profiling in resolving complex criminal cases.
