BAJAUR: The funeral prayer of Awami National Party leader Maulana Khanzeb was offered in Darbanu area of Tehsil Nawagai, where a large number of local and provincial party leaders participated.
Maulana Khanzeb, who was one of the vocal persons against terrorism in the area, was on his campaign for the July 13 peace march, when his car was targeted by unknown persons. The attack resulted martyrdom of two persons, Maulana Khanzeb and his guard, while another person was seriously injured and was later referred to Peshawar.
The funeral prayer was attended by local elders, social workers, politicians and a large number of religious scholars. Later, his dead body was brought to his ancestral graveyard, where he was laid to rest. On this occasion, the local people chanted full-throated slogans against the government and incompetent district administration for giving open permission to terrorists to target the innocent people.
The locals demanded that the government arrest the killers of Maulana Khanzeb and give them exemplary punishment. The locals vowed that they would chalk out their plan for a peace march and would soon contact the masses for a peace rally.
It was not a single incident, as earlier to this, prominent elders and politicians of Bajaur had been targeted by terrorist elements in the area. The recent wave of terrorists has caused a wave of concern among the residents and has raised questions about the government’s performance for failing to restore peace in the area.
