PESHAWAR: Funeral prayers for the five personnel who embraced martyrdom in Friday’s helicopter crash in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were offered in Peshawar on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by cabinet members, senior government officials, police officers, and the families of the martyrs.
The tragic incident occurred during flood relief operations in Bajaur when a KP government MI-17 helicopter carrying aid supplies to Salarzai crashed while returning from its mission. Two pilots and three crew members lost their lives in the crash.
Earlier, the provincial government received a preliminary investigation report, which confirmed that the helicopter took off at 10:30 AM for Salarzai and later crashed in Mohmand while on its way back. The report cited adverse weather conditions and heavy fog as the cause of the accident.
Authorities have launched a search for the helicopter’s black box, which is expected to provide crucial data, including cockpit conversations, to help determine the exact cause of the crash.
