ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on IT, led by Chairman Aminul Haque, discussed concerns over Microsoft’s operations in Pakistan during a recent meeting. Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima revealed that Microsoft has laid off 16,000 employees globally in the past year, but its impact on Pakistan remains unclear.
Currently, Microsoft has only five employees in Pakistan, and it is uncertain whether they will also be let go. The minister clarified that Microsoft does not have an operational office in the country, but the government is working to establish one.
In related developments, the committee also discussed Google’s potential entry into Pakistan, signaling possible future investments in the tech sector.
