Creating professional-quality videos, once a complex and expensive task, is now within reach for everyone. Google has opened access to the standard version of its powerful AI-powered video editor, “Google Vids,” to the general public. The tool was previously a premium feature available only to paid Google Workspace subscribers.
The core mission of Google Vids is to streamline the video creation process. Users can simply type a script, and the AI will help generate a complete video. The platform is packed with user-friendly features designed for efficiency, including a library of templates, automated storyboarding, suggested scenes, and a vast collection of stock footage and background music. A notable addition is a set of 12 AI avatars that can narrate content with adjustable voices and expressions.
This tool is positioned as a game-changer for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. It empowers them to quickly produce training modules, engaging product demonstrations, and customer support videos without a dedicated video team or a large budget.
While the free standard version is robust, some of the most advanced AI features unveiled recently remain exclusive to paid plans for now. However, Google has hinted that these premium features may trickle down to all users in the future.
In a recent update, Google Vids also introduced the ability to create short, 8-second videos using a user’s own product or personal photos, ideal for social media snippets.
As explained by Google’s product director Vishnu Swaji, the contrast is stark: “Traditionally, a 10-minute video could take months and cost millions of rupees. With Google Vids, the same work can be completed in hours and at a very low cost.” This development marks a significant step towards making high-quality video production accessible, saving businesses precious time and resources.
