Taliban Vows Aid for Afghan Refugees Expelled from Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued instructions to Afghan citizens holding POR cards to leave Pakistan in light of federal instructions.

According to a statement issued by the provincial home department, Afghan citizens who do not have passports and visas will be conidered illegal after June 30, 2025.

The statement clarified that the validity of POR cards has expired on June 30, after which these cards no longer have legal status. The government has directed thse Afghan citizens to complete their return process by reaching the transit points established in Peshawar and Landi Kotal.

The provincial home department says that this decision was taken on July 31, 2025 under the instructions of the federal government, which aims to bring the presence of illegal immigrants in the country within the ambit of law.

Officials say that the repatriation process is being carried out in a phased and humanitarian manner, so as to provide convenience and protection to the affected people.

It should be noted that a large number of Afghan refugees have been living in Pakistan for the past several decades, some of whom had obtained temporary asylum under the POR cards. However, now that the validity of these cards has expired, the government has accelerated the steps for their repatriation.
